RALEIGH, NC (September 5, 2019) – House Democracy Partnership (HDP) Chairman David Price (D-NC) issued the following statement on the retirement of HDP colleague, Congresswoman Susan Davis (D-CA):

"Susan Davis is a longtime friend and valued colleague. We have worked closely together, particularly in developing the House Democracy Partnership as an instrument for strengthening parliaments in emerging democracies.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 25, 2019) – Chairman David Price (D-NC) and Co-Chair Vern Buchanan (R-FL) announced Derek Luyten will serve as Executive Director of the House Democracy Partnership (HDP). Derek has more than a decade of experience working with emerging democracies, most recently serving as the Regional Director for Asia at the International Republican Institute (IRI).

HDP is a bipartisan, twenty-member commission of the U.S. House of Representatives that works directly with the legislatures of partner countries around the world to support the development of effective, independent, and responsive legislative institutions.

The bipartisan and elite group of foreign policy experts were unanimous that elected legislatures, when they are stable and transparent, are one of the most powerful means to stem that tide.
