Strengthening Parliamentary Committee Functions in The Gambia
From October 18-20, 2023, the House Democracy Partnership engaged with the National Assembly of The Gambia to conduct a Technical Assistance Consultancy (TAC) focused on strengthening parliamentary committee functions. The TAC engaged with National Assembly Members (NAMs), including assembly leadership and leadership of several committees, as well as with committee staff and civil society representatives, to highlight the best practices of committees and the roles that members and parliamentary staff hold. The TAC also emphasized the importance of the role of committees in executive and judiciary oversight and how resources can best be leveraged towards this goal. The HDP delegation consisted of experts in congressional committees, including former U.S. Congressional committee staff members and Northern Ireland committee staff, a leader in West African civil society and parliament engagement, and staff members from NDI.
