Roskam, Price Applaud 25 Years of U.S. Collaboration with Kyrgyzstan
Washington, D.C. — Today, U.S. Representatives Peter J. Roskam (R-IL) and David Price (D-NC), the Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Democracy Partnership (HDP), applaud 25 years of partnership between the United States and the Kyrgyz Republic. A quarter century ago, the United States was one of the first countries to recognize an independent Kyrgyz Republic and the partnership with this bright light of democracy continues today. The House Democracy Partnership of the U.S. House of Representatives is pleased to partner with the parliamentary leaders and staff of the Supreme Council to continue to improve legislative democracy.
“I have met with Kyrgyz students, teachers, civil society, and government leaders and they are rightfully proud of their independent democracy. I look forward to our continued collaboration,” said Chairman Roskam.
“The Kyrgyz people have worked hard to build a transparent government based on democratic principles, which will serve them well in maintaining their independence, sovereignty, and prosperity in the coming decades,” noted Ranking Member Price.
The House Democracy Partnership, founded in 2005, is a bipartisan commission of the House of Representatives that works to promote responsive, effective government and strengthen democratic institutions by assisting legislatures in emerging democracies. The Partnership is assisted by the US Agency for International Development, the International Republican Institute, and the National Democratic Institute.
